🧠 Resource Round-Up: Cognition, Courses, Books, & More

It's been a few months since my last collection of resources from around the web related to medical speech pathology, because I have been BUSY! We've set some pretty big goals for 2023 here at Tactus, and I hope you'll join us in our journey to bring you something really exciting this year.

Without further ado, here are some of the best resources I've rounded up lately:

1. 🧠 INCOG 2.0: Rarely do journal articles get me excited, but an update to the INCOG guidelines is an exception. These open-access articles review the latest evidence for cognitive therapy with clear recommendations for TBI intervention. If you're an SLP working with brain injury, be sure to read and download these articles:

2. 📺 Stream at Home: The documentary Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down is now available to watch at home. Prepare to be inspired by this woman's determination, showing that aphasia doesn't mean silence.

3. 7️⃣ Top Aphasia Courses: It's never too early to earn CEUs for the year. Start by taking one of Medbridge's top 7 most popular courses in aphasia. Save big when you join using our affiliate code "TACTUS".

4. 📚 New Cognitive Books: If you're an SLP, you're going to want to order this book that teaches you how to teach your cognitive patients: Transforming Cognitive Rehabilitation. It's the sequel to Optimizing Cognitive Rehabilitation.

And if you want a manual that details exactly how to do cognitive therapy, then grab the newly-updated ACRM Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual & Textbook - 2nd Edition. There's also an online course for more CEUs.

5. 🤐 Tip of the Tongue: If you're dealing with aphasia in your family, you will appreciate this colorful book that shows what aphasia can feel like, written by a person with word-finding problems: It's a Thing.

6. 💬 Communication Aid: Our apps are for therapy, and others help people communicate. But now there's a new bilingual app that helps healthcare workers support communication with a person with aphasia. Check out MedConcerns on the App Store for iPad.

7. 👥 Aphasia Access 2023: The Aphasia Access Leadership Summit is my favorite conference for connecting with LPAA clinicians and researchers. People with aphasia can attend too, with special aphasia-friendly sessions. It's being held in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, March 23 – 25. Register today!

8. 📆 Memory Aid Assessment: SLPs who teach strategies for memory problems need a way to figure out which strategies to use. Enter the Functional External Memory Aid Tool 2.0. Check out this open-access article that explains how to use the updated FEMAT, then request access to the assessment here.

📱 App Updates & News:

We released a free update to Conversation Therapy in late 2022 to keep the content relevant, along with updates to all our apps to ensure they're working well with iOS16.

We've got an update coming soon to Writing Therapy to add a QWERTY keyboard arrangement for iPad and tablet users - thanks to your requests! Watch for it.

Tactus would like to welcome senior software developer Mike Wu to our team! We're now a team of 6 people working hard to bring you the latest in speech therapy software.

Wishing you health and happiness in 2023,

Megan

P.S. Thank you so much to everyone who took advantage of our November sale or told someone about it! We really value your support and are thrilled to hear all your success stories of people using the apps to help in their recoveries.

It's not surprising that auditory comprehension plays a major role in rehab success and quality of life post-discharge (Wallace et al., 2022). Even our patients with the types of...
