It's time for another load of resources from around the web related to medical speech pathology. This month there are books, videos, movies, radio stories, and news articles bringing attention to aphasia around the world!

1. π Byron on the Big Screen: Many of you may recognize Byron Peterson from our YouTube video and article about fluent aphasia. Byron's video inspired a screenwriter, and now the endearing words he said to me ("I hope the world lasts for you") are now part of a Hollywood hit starring Liam Neeson. Read more about Byron and how he's doing now in this news article.

2. π§ What is Speech Pathology?: Last spring I told you about the website WhatsSLP.com to explain speech-language pathology to the public. Now you can add to your educational toolbox with this FREE downloadable guide created for high school students interested in learning more about the career created by Canadian SLP students.
3. βοΈ Functional Goals Beyond the Impairment: When I mentor other SLPs, I find I'm often advocating for setting goals that go beyond the impairment. We can frequently make more progress when we address personal or environmental factors or target participation. I recently discovered that ASHA has a FREE set of goal examples for aphasia, dysarthria, TBI, swallowinig, dementia, and many other areas of practice based on the WHO-ICF model I use.
4. π± Intensive Aphasia Programs Use Tactus: A recent article updated us on what intensive comprehensive aphasia programs (ICAPs) look like today. We were thrilled to see that 10 of the 14 programs that qualified as fully-fledged ICAPs use Tactus Therapy apps as part of their programs, more than anyone else, making us the most used software in the top intensive rehab programs around the world!
5. π Who Benefits from Intensive Therapy?: Before you go signing up your loved one or patients for an ICAP, it's important to understand who benefits most, and if gains can be maintained. A new study examines exactly who is likely to make and maintain gains, and they've summarized the results for you in a video.
6. π£ The Art and Science of Conversation Therapy: Conversation Therapy is both the name of one of our popular therapy apps, and the topic of an upcoming Aphasia Access town-hall talk. Sign up for this FREE event happening at the end of this month to learn how to integrate conversational intervention into your therapy. I'm looking forward to it!
7. π Aphasia in the News: US General Michael Hayden was featured on NPR in an interview about liviing with aphasia. Listen to this 8-minute story, and read more about General Hayden in a 2019 CNN article.
8. πΊπΈ A Senate Candidate with Apraxia: Coleman Watson is running for Senate in Florida, and his campaign video is inspirational, all politics aside. Watch how he's fighting back from a stroke to fight for better healthcare, and check out the trailer for his documentary about apraxia of speech.
9. βοΈ We're going to ASHA - virtually: This year's ASHA Convention is set to be a hybrid in-person/virtual event, and that goes for the exhibit hall too. We've secured our cyberspace booth to show off some new resources, talk to attendees, and promote some event specials in November. Stay tuned for details!
10. π Aphasia Book Club: Not only is Identity Theft: Rediscovering Ourselves After Stroke an excellent read for all stroke survivors, families, and therapists, it now comes with a FREE book group discussion guide, making it so easy to implement an aphasia book club in your outpatient program, community group, or university clinic.
